Screen Printing vs DTF vs Sublimation: Which One Should You Choose?
August 11, 2026

After 3-4 years of printing shirts, caps, and hoodies for individual customers and bulk/corporate orders in Gujranwala, one question comes up more than any other: which printing technique should I actually use? Here is how we decide, based on real orders, not just theory.

Screen Printing

Screen printing pushes ink through a mesh stencil, one color/layer at a time. It is the technique we reach for on bulk orders with simple, limited-color designs, like a factory logo on 50+ shirts. Once the screen is set up, it prints fast and holds up extremely well to washing, which is why it is still the standard for large corporate/uniform orders. The tradeoff: it is not cost-effective for a single shirt, and it struggles with complex, multi-color, or photo-style designs.

Best for: Bulk orders, simple logos, 1-3 colors, factory/company uniforms.

DTF Printing (Direct-to-Film)

DTF prints the design onto a special film, then heat-presses it onto the fabric. This is what we use most often for personalized single-piece orders, custom logos on caps, and designs with more color detail than screen printing can handle economically. It works on almost any fabric color, prints fast per piece, and does not require the setup cost that screen printing does. This is our default choice for most custom t-shirt printing orders on GiftStudio.shop.

Best for: Personalized single/small orders, multi-color designs, caps, mixed fabric colors.

Sublimation Printing

Sublimation turns ink into gas under heat, which bonds directly into the fabric fibers rather than sitting on top of it. This gives the softest hand-feel (you cannot feel the print) and the most vibrant colors for photo-quality prints, but it only works properly on white or light-colored polyester or polyester-blend fabric. This is what we use for hoodies and photo-heavy designs where color accuracy matters most.

Best for: Photo prints, hoodies, all-over designs, polyester/poly-blend fabric.

Plotter Cutting

Not a print method exactly, this is vinyl cut into precise shapes (text, logos, simple graphics) and heat-pressed on. We use this when a design needs razor-sharp, clean edges, especially for text and simple logo shapes, where DTF or screen printing might not give the same crispness.

Quick Comparison

Technique Best For Order Size
Screen Printing Simple logos, 1-3 colors Bulk (20+)
DTF Printing Multi-color, personalized designs Single piece to bulk
Sublimation Photo prints, hoodies Single piece to bulk
Plotter Cutting Sharp text/logo shapes Any size

We choose the technique based on your design, fabric, and quantity, not a fixed default. Explore our Custom T-Shirt Printing, Cap Printing, Hoodie Printing, or Bulk & Corporate Printing collections.
